Auction
houses such as Christies, Sotheby's, and Antiquorum
serve as a marketplace, provide data on recent sales,
and offer detailed descriptions to determine comparable
values. An
abundance of reference material, museum exhibits, and
private collections also provide information on antique
clocks and their makers. Factors
used to determine value are:
-
Maker and date of manufacture
-
Complications of the movement
- Style
and material of the case and the case maker
- Originality
of all the components
- Rarity
and provenance
- Present
condition
Our
rare clocks can provide enjoyment beyond the decorative
aspects of a ornately designed case or the melodious
strikes of the bell or even a very specialized musical
movement. Feel
free to call 805-565-5902 for any additional
information. |
The
horologic instruments on our site represent a collection
of quality clocks and watches that were made in the
18th and 19th century in Switzerland, Germany, France
and England. These
rare clocks, watches and other timepieces have provided
a hedge against inflation and are sound alternative
investments to stocks and other paper assets.
Typically most will hold their present value or appreciate
over time as well as provide an element of enjoyment
to their owners. After an inspection by a qualified
clockmaker any necessary restoration work has been
performed on each clock or watch. All movements are
original to their cases and every effort has been made
to provide an accurate description of condition.
