Early
English longcase clock by Ebsworth of London

This
is a fine longcase clock by John Ebsworth of London.
It has a thirty day movement with outside count wheel,
bolt and shutter maintaining power, latched plates,
and strikes on a bell.
The
dial has a central Tudor Rose, silvered chapter ring,
seconds dial, calendar aperture, and cherub spandrels.
The oak case is veneered in walnut and olivewood oyster
with colored floral marquetry inlay.
John
Ebsworth Londini Fecit. Ebsworth was apprenticed in
1657 and Master of the Clockmaker’s Company in 1697.
Another of his clocks is featured in Derek Robert’s
book, British Longcase Clocks, on pages 5 and 35.
Circa 1690.
