English
mantle clock by Dwerrihouse & Ogston - Details:
This
pretty little English mantle clock has brass bound
glazed panels on all four sides to allow viewing of
the highly polished double fusee movement with anchor
escapement striking on a gong.
A
glazed rosewood door opens to a silvered dial signed
Dwerrihouse & Ogston, 27 Davies St, Berkeley
Square, with countersunk center, Roman chapter
ring, blue-steel Breguet style hands, and a strike/silent
above the XII.
The
rosewood case with two locking doors and a brass inset
carrying handle on the top rests on four brass bun
feet. The movement is signed on the back plate the
same as the dial.
Recently cleaned and serviced, this clock is in good
working order.
Sometimes
the photographs fail to convey the richness of the
wood or the well-proportioned design that is evident
when viewing the clock in person.
Circa 1830
