This
is a scratch built English scale model of a 1934 Bugatti
Type 59 by Gerald Wingrove M.B.E. The model was created
by photographing, sketching, and measuring the full
sized classic car.
In 1981 the plans were drawn
up to full size then reduced to 1/15 scale for the model.
Each part of this unique scale model is made
from brass, cast alloys, rubber, or other materials
by Wingrove, using machines and special tools that in
some cases he designed and made to facilitate construction
of the model's intricate parts. Each wire of the 80
spoke wheels were made and installed by Gerald. The
only plastic on the entire model is the wind screen.
The rubber tires were molded to match the original tire
tread pattern.
Gerald Wingrove usually built
these classic car scale models to order, but this one
he made for himself. I convinced him to sell it to me
in 1996, while I was visiting his shop in Digby, England.
This Bugatti scale model is 'museum' quality in that
- it was hand built with exacting and accurate materials
- it was created with internationally recognized craftmanship.
This is an amazing Wingrove scale model
and took him a full year to make.
It should last for well over 100 years if properly stored
and cared for. This car is a unique work of art
by an award winning master scale model maker.
Wingrove's 1:15-scale cars are about as close to perfection
as it is possible to get. Dimensions:
10"x4"x3" high - all metal construction weighs over
2lbs.

very model of a classic model maker"

The
Bugatti Type 59 was a continuation and the final iteration
of Ettore Bugatti's Grand Prix racing cars - only a
few were ever made. Between 1933 & 1936, only 6
or 7 examples were built. They were powered by an 8
cylinder engine. More information at:
